Acetate Card Design

Acetate cards add another level of elegance to a card maker’s choice of designs.  They can be created in two different styles and used for an endless amount of themes and looks.  Stamped with bright inks or done in monochromatic tones make these cards noticed where ever they are used.

Kraft Cardstock

Begin by making the card base from cardstock (kraft cardstock used here) for this style.  It can be any size you choose.  This card is a 5” x 7” card.  Then, cut a piece of acetate the same size as the base.   Use a paper trimmer to cut both pieces so that you will end up with a clean, straight cut edge and use a scoring board to create the folds on both pieces.

Stamping

Lay the card stock base aside for later.  Prepare the stamp with ink if using a new stamp by inking it and then stamping onto a left over piece of card stock.  Do this several times until you see a dark, clear image each time you stamp.  This is a good way to prepare any new stamps or stamps that have not been used for a while.

Stamp Acetate

For stamping on acetate, you will want to use an ink especially made to dry quickly and to be permanent such as StazOn ink.  Once you have the ink on the stamp, carefully stamp on the acetate making sure not to twist or slide it.  The stamp used on this project is the Elegant Flourishes by Inkadinkado.

Glue Pen

Take the card base and run a strip of ink along the folded edge using a Sakura Quickie  Glue Pen.   Place the piece of acetate over the top and fold the card closed so that both pieces meet to form a bond.

Once the pieces have dried, cut a piece of 28” ribbon and place it on the inside of the card and tie it around the edge as shown in the finished picture.

For another look to this card, leave off the card stock base and create just the acetate card base.  Add die cut shapes created from cardstock to the front of the card after stamping the images onto the acetate.  Use the shapes and add a to the outside and cover the tape that was used to adhere them to the acetate with a matching shape on the inside of the card that is stamped with an additional stamp design or an embellishment so the tape cannot be seen.

This type of card adds  a touch of elegance to any occasion.  It’s a great addition when you need a simple, but classy look to a card.  This card type will surely be a hit no matter what look you add to it!
