Four Sided Halloween Card

Here’s another fun card style to add to your list.  This is a four sided card that is as fun to make as it is to receive.  This one has been decorated in honor of Halloween  coming up using the great new Spooky Collection Kit by Carta Bella.

Trim Black Cardstock

Start this card by cutting four 5” wide by 7” long panels from black cardstock using a paper trimmer.  Lay those aside.

Printed Paper

Cut four sheets of patterned paper that measure 6 ¾” x 4 ¾”.  This Halloween project used the Spooky Collection Kit by Carta Bella.

Attach Patterned Paper

Attach each of the patterned paper pieces to the each of the panels using a tape runner.

Score

Place the panels one at a time on a scoring board and score them in half at 2 ½”.

Die Cutting

Tape your choice of dies (Labels Four by Spellbinders is shown) onto the back of the first panel.  Painters Tape is perfect to use for this because it is easily removable without tearing the paper.  If regular tape is used be sure the tape is on the inside of the die as shown in the picture.  Run the panel through the die cut machine (Grand Calibur by Spellbinders used for this project).

HINT:  Once the first panel has been die cut, lay it on the backside of the remaining panels and mark the opening.  It makes it easy to place the die on the remaining panels and assures you that all of the windows will be cut in the same area.

Repeat this step for the remaining panels.

Repeat

This will be what the panels will look like at this point.  Be sure to save the pieces that were cut from the die for other projects.  They make the perfect journaling pieces for layouts or backgrounds for sentiments on cards.

Windows

Now, take the die you used to cut the windows in the panels and the die that is one size larger than it and place them on a square of black cardstock.  The picture shows how they will be placed together.  Keep in mind that when using the die cut machine the dies will be under the cardstock.  This will create the frame around the window opening on the panels to give it a finished look.

Create one for each panel.

Border

Glue Pen

Attach the frames onto the panels using glue (Aleene’s Tacky Glue Pen shown in the picture).  Allow them to dry as you work on the next step.

Smaller Die

Choose the smaller sized die than what you used to create the windows in the panel and cut 4 pieces out of cardstock.  Lay them aside.

Panels

Using the 2 ½” score line that you created earlier with the scoring board, slightly fold each panel on those lines.  They should now be able to stand on their own.

Tape Runner

Add a tape line using the tape runner (Advanced Tape Glider by Scotch shown) down the left edge of the first panel.

Fold

Place the second panel on top of the first panel making sure to line up all of the edges.

New Window

Fold the second panel closed and add another tape line as shown.

Second Panel

Continue adding the rest of the panels and adhering them with tape.  Do not tape the last half of the last panel down at this time.  It should look like the picture above at this point.

Folded Cutouts

Fold the 4 small die cut pieces in half and adhere them together on each of the left edges just as you did the four panels.

Twine

Before completely closing them off, add a line of the Aleene’s Glue to the center of the pieces and add a 4” piece of twine (We R Memory Keeper’s Sew Easy Black Baker’s Twine shown).   Add the last of the tape on the edge and adhere the piece closed.

Decorate

Add a sticker from the Spooky kit to each side of the hanging piece.  Next, add a line of glue to the inside center of the card and lay the twine in the glue.  Add a line of adhesive to the edge of the panel and adhere the final edges together.  You can adjust the string as needed so it hangs freely and if necessary trim the excess from the top of the card.

You have now completed your first four sided card.  Aren’t they fun to make?  Use them for any occasion and decorate them for any theme.
