Do you know someone who is retiring soon? Don’t forget to honor them with a very special card to celebrate. Use it as a thank you for all their work or send warm wishes for the new journey they will be going on.
Fold a piece of cardstock (8 ½” x 11” white cardstock is used) in half keeping the folded edge at the top.
Place the folded edge onto the die (Vintage Scale die by Sizzix) keeping it just under the top cut line on the die and run it through a die cut machine according to the directions. Also, cut a third single piece using the die and an unfolded sheet of paper and lay that aside for later. Do not emboss this piece. Note: By placing the fold below the cutting edge this will create the card base in one piece.
Place the hand in the embossing folder and use the proper stack for the embossing machine you are using and run it through the machine.
Now, place the card base into the fold and open it up so that only the front of it will be embossed and run it through the machine.
The pieces should look like this at this point.
Leave the card base open and make 2 pencil marks on the folded edge that measure ½” apart.
Cut a slit between the marks using a craft knife and a self healing mat.
Cut a strip of white cardstock that measures ¼” x at least 3” using a paper trimmer.
Choose 3 colors of ink that you would see on a distressed, old piece of metal. Peeled Paint, Tea Dye and Weathered Wood by Ranger Ink were used on this project. Add some of each color to a craft mat.
Take the ink applicator with a felt piece on it and using a circle motion pick up some ink from each color. Continue using the circular motion without lifting it from the mat and move it onto the piece of cardstock to add the color. If you want more of one of the colors, simply use the circular motion to apply ink to the tool from the mat and onto the paper. Add more ink to the mat as needed to cover all of the pieces to the card including the one that you cut from the die, but did not emboss.
Add a 3-d adhesive dot to the back of the hand and center it in the middle of the main piece.
Slide the strip of paper through the slit that you cut and attach the rectangle pieces to the front and back of the strip using a tape runner.
This is what the top will look like once it is finished.
Trim the paper strip down using a pair of scissors. Then, adhere the die cut piece that you did not emboss to cover it making sure the edges are lined up with the back of the card base.
Use the Alphabet Punch Set by Martha Stewart or an alphabet stamp set to add the message to the front of the card and to the inside of the card. Tip: Adhere the individual letter from the alphabet punch with a Sakura Quickie Glue Pen.
Give the gift of a thank you to someone who is retiring using this cute 3-d antique scale card and tell them the work he or she has done was appreciated. Use it as an invitation to invite the guests to a retirement party or as an announcement of someone who is retiring. This card can be used in many ways and help to add to the fun!
